About IGNOU Online M.Tech In Electrical Power System
Power engineering is a subfield of electrical engineering that is restricted to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power. For a better understanding in a few words, power system engineers came up with mathematical models and software tools by designing, optimizing, and analyzing engineering principles to solve problems that are associated with power generation, transmission, and distribution and also related to utilization problems. To be a power engineer, it is necessary to have skills and knowledge about smart grids, microgrids, flow of load, and short circuit analysis in detail. If anyone is enthusiastic about understanding and studying the subject in detail, they can register for future studies. Learners can apply for the M.Tech program in Power Systems. However, the challenge is that not everyone is in a position to apply for the M.Tech Regular program. Therefore, they seek a program that allows them to work apart from higher studies. So they find part-time M.Tech correspondence and distance education program alternatives.
But the challenge is that the Supreme Court doesn’t recognize part-time technical education, so recognized bodies like UGC and AICTE don’t permit distance M.Tech programs. However, they give permission to the M.Tech flexible timing program. M.Tech flexible timing is a 2-year postgraduation program that allows students to apply for the power system engineering course. Unlike regular programs, M.Tech flexible timing offers a hybrid mode of education.
Lectures are conducted online so students don’t have to visit the campus to attend the lectures. And lectures are conducted by professors who are extremely talented in their fields. But lectures aren’t sufficient because it is a technical program. So facilities like virtual labs are offered to students so they can easily understand the concepts. However, students have to visit the labs at the campus for practicals.
The curriculum of the flexible timing M.Tech program in power systems focuses on the learning of advanced concepts like power generation, transmission, and distribution. Core subjects deal with power system analysis, protection of electrical machines, control systems, and stability of power systems. Apart from core subjects, the program offers elective subjects. Elective subjects include smart grids, renewable energy, high voltage, and power electronics. Core plus elective subjects motivate students to conduct research and work on projects to apply their knowledge.
Online Degree Acceptance
Online degrees earned from a government-approved university, just like a regular degree, are accepted by the top recruiters worldwide including government & private sectors.
Value of Online Degree
An online degree from a government-approved university holds similar recognition in the industry as that of a regular degree. Thus, it is equally valuable when considered for a job or higher education.
Quality of Education
The quality of education offered in online programs is of the same standard as offered in an on-campus program. Be it curriculum, faculty members, evaluation methods, practical sessions, online & on-campus programs follow similar standards of quality.

I respect IGNOU for making higher education accessible to so many students across India. That said, accessibility alone is not enough. The overall student journey — from support to communication to process clarity — could be much better.

IGNOU is a decent option if you need flexibility or missed traditional college admissions. But if I had the option of a more structured and student-friendly university within budget, I would probably choose that instead.

IGNOU is functional, and thousands of students complete their education through it, so clearly it works. But I would not call it efficient. Many processes feel slower and more manual than they should in today’s time.

Some counselors and faculty members are helpful, but the experience is not consistent across centers and courses. That unpredictability is frustrating because your academic experience should not depend so much on chance.

IGNOU is affordable and has good recognition, which is why many students choose it. But the repeated follow-ups, portal confusion, and delayed updates can become mentally tiring over time. It is useful, but not always comfortable.

There were many times during my course when I felt there was no proper support channel for small but important queries. Whether it was assignment confusion or exam clarification, the process often felt like students had to solve everything themselves.

I think IGNOU is a very useful university for people who had to pause their studies or want a second chance in education. But the system still needs modernization. It gives opportunity, but not always convenience.

IGNOU is not a bad university academically, especially for distance education. The real issue is the communication gap. Students often remain confused because important updates are either delayed or not explained clearly enough.

My honest opinion is that IGNOU is only as good as your own discipline. If you are serious, organized, and self-driven, you can make it work. But if you expect the university to keep you consistently engaged, it may not meet your expectations.
